Old Friends

Old Friends on Facebook
January 2017

My grandmother used to write to her fried all of the time.  she used to write at least one letter a day to someone.  I used to write letters as well.  But after I left college, I stopped doing that. Now, we just communicate through texts and emails.  Our messages are short and shallow in content.  So i am always surprised when I find someone who uses social media as a meaningful way to communicate.  Below is a correspondence I stumbled upon last night:

"Hi Bob! Tell us what is happening in your life. Dick and I are mostly home bodies, anymore, with our bad backs and knees. Our family--Terry,Julie live in Council Bluffs and their chidren-- Ben and Lauren--.live in Omaha. Ben has his own business--Radon Eiimination--commercial and private homes.Lauren is a Nurse Recruiter. We still have our family farm and cash rent it to a neighbor.

We lost our oldest son--Jim-- age 56-- to cancer--over 2 years ago.

Vivian Dodge Hoffman stops to see us when ever she goes up hwy 81. to visit her daughter north of Grand Island. She and Jack Dodge are Dick's only 1st cousins, yet living, on the Dodge side.of the family.
Dick's sister, Ruth, lives in Fla. She is 88 and lives in her own home yet. Both Dick and I turned 86 last fall.

Hope you are well.

We are so glad you wanted to be FRIENDS on face book..

Dick and Marie"

"Great to hear from you. Still remember swiming in the horse tank and making ice cream by hand. Susan and I live in a historic house in Charlestown MD bilt in 1788. Getting too much for us and are attempting to learn "decluttering". My son Greg is a theater technician in Portland Oregon. He is not married but appears to have found a soulmate. Angie is an equine vet and raises horsed near Wiliamsburg VA. She has a 10 year old daughter. Susan has MS and has quite a bit of pain. She is a real trooper. I retired from Cecil College after 22 years as President and got into local politics. Served as Mayor of Charlestown. We have a sail boat but don't have enough time to sail. For many years we skiied out west but have given that up. Other than that we don't do much. Thanks for all the info on your family. You knew Gordon died last year. Donna lives in Nebraska and is recovering from a fall. That is the news from Lake Wobegone!. Love Bob"

I wonder if they will correspond again.
